Bop-Trilogy by Thomas Gunther featuring The Chicago Jazz Ensemble and Jon FeddasThis song was recorded by the Chicago Jazz Ensemble in residence at Columbia College Chicago under the direction of Jon Feddas. I decided to make it available on youtube due to its educational value it was intended for. (As explained below.)
WHY DID I WRITE THIS SONG
I wrote and arranged Bop-Trilogy for the Chicago Jazz Ensemble directed by Jon Feddas as an homage to the bebop era and the phenomenal musicians who created this important jazz style.
Truth being told, I probably would have never written it if I hadn’t received a commission for writing a big band arrangement in bebop style by Columbia College Chicago as part of the Chicago Jazz Ensemble's educational concert series.
The idea was to write and arrange a suite for jazz ensemble consisting of three movements, each movement representing a different bebop style.
• Mov. 1: Bop-talety – Dizzy Gillespie –latin bop
• Mov. 2: Monk-ology –Thelonious Monk –(Ballades)
• Mov. 3: Bebop-Citations – Charlie Parker –fast bop
Since this work is intended to provide educational value for the listener unfamiliar with Bebop as well as something to smile about for the experienced listener, my themes include plenty of musical quotations from famous songs and phrases most associated with the era.
Bebop fans will certainly smile when hearing all those Bebop citations, whereas listeners unfamiliar with it will get a taste of one of the most significant jazz styles ever developed.
THE IMPORTANCE OF THE ENSEMBLE FOR MY CARIER
The Chicago Jazz Ensemble was founded by William Russo. He played a critical roll in my decision to move to Chicago by asking me to perform with the Chicago Jazz Ensemble, as well as offering me a teaching position at Columbia College Chicago. A life changing decision.
WE WILL REMEMBER YOU by Thomas Gunther | Dedicated to Health Care Workers fighting Covid-19WE WILL REMEMBER YOU
Written and produced by Thomas Gunther
Vocals sung and recorded by Adam Cunningham
Thomas Gunther Music Productions (May 25, 2020 - all rights reserved).
This song is dedicated to all those brave Health Care Workers fighting Covid-19.
This song is very personal to me, considering that my wife is a healthcare worker, too.
I started writing this song during Chicago's stay-at-home order in April 2020, a few months after the beginning of the Coved-19 pandemic. The situation was terrifying. Hospitals in New York are flooded with COVID-19 patients. There are not enough masks and other protective gear available for all the health care workers, the healthcare system overburdened and underprepared.
The mental and physical strain on healthcare workers was unimaginable. They were facing this deadly virus without proper protection. They did it anyway, like true heroes do.
With my song WE WILL REMEMBER YOU I want to thank them for their heroism. I hope the song speaks to them, and makes them realize that history will not forget their enormous sacrefizes.
Let us all support them by following social distancing guidelines to get this thing under control!
About the production:
I recorded this entire song all by myself at home using Apple's Logic Pro music production software. At first I was singing it myself, but was not happy with the result. Thankfully, I found an amazing singer. His name is Adam Cunningham. He did a fabulous job singing and recording all vocals on this track in just one day. All I had to do is send him my instrumental playback, my vocal pilot track and a lead-sheet. He even added his own very creative backup vocals. A real pro!
By the way, Adam was one of the semifinalists at The Voice in 20??.

The Man - A Song by Thomas Gunther and Pamela FernandezThe Man was written by Thomas Gunther and Pamela Fernandez.
This song is about that perfect man all women dream of.
Interestingly enough, THE MAN is actually two songs in one. When Thomas gave Pam his idea of the song it reminded her of a song she had written years ago.Coincidentally, her melody fit perfectly to the harmonic structure and groove Thomas used for this song. As a result some verses where written by Pam, and others by Thomas.
This video shows the lyrics of the song synced up with the music.
We are really hoping that one day someone will make this into a real music video. If you're interested please contact us through PamelasDreams.com.
We hope you enjoy the song, and if you like to learn more about us please visit us on the web at http://PamelasDreams.com
The George Floyd Hymn by Thomas GuntherI wrote this song in remembrance of George Floyd who has been killed by police on May 26, 2020.
I wrote a soundtrack to the timeline (THE GEORGE FLOYD HYMN) that shows the 5 minutes and 56 seconds. That's how long it took from the moment the officer knees on George's neck to the point his heard stopped beating in accordance to George's postmortem examination report. Get this: The officers continued kneeing on George almost 3 minutes after his heard stopped beating. In self-defense? I think not!
Police brutality against African American's is an unfortunate part of America's history. "To serve and protect" is the slogan of the American police force. How did this work out for George Floyd?!
This brutal murder of George Floyd committed by white police officers would have never seen the light of day if it wasn't for some bystanders filming the entire act. THANK YOU FOR SHARING!
American's say "enough is enough". This needs to stop now.
But the problem goes way deeper than that. Policing in America needs a complete reform, so does the justice system, and last but not least new policies that integrate people of color into the American society in a more fair and just way.
The horrific story of George Floyd must never be forgotten and be taught in school to all American children until change has finally washed away those tears.
Let's all hope for a better future where all people are finally being treated equally in these United States of America!

Life's A Dream When You Keep Dreams Alive - A Song by Thomas Gunther (remastered)Find the free sheet music at ThomasGunther.com/life
I wrote this song for those people who gave up on their dream(s), or are about to.
I define dream as the intense desire for something we want more than anything in the world. Something we dream about at night, and can’t stop thinking about all day. Furthermore, the kind of dream I am talking about is not like winning in the lottery. It is the kind of dream we have to work for, and have to be willing to sacrifice other things to achieve it. Only those kind of dreams ultimately energize us, focus our efforts, and make us live up to our potential.
Your dream(s) can still come true
Everyone has – or at least has had at least one big dream. Unfortunately, it is easy to give up on our dreams for all the wrong reasons.
My song Life’s A Dream, When You Keep Dreams Alive wants to revive the hope in you that one day your dream(s) can still come true, as long as you don’t give up believing in them, and as long as you keep them with you day and night.
There are many personal stories of people that prove that as long as we really want something badly enough, it’s only a matter of time that we will achieve it.
We are (NOT!) born a couch potato
Someone once told me this: “We are all born to become couch potatoes”. I couldn’t disagree more with this kind of pessimistic thinking! We only become lazy when we give up on our ambitions, in other words, when we ignore our hopes and dreams that drive us to do more with our lives than just waiting for a lottery ticket to come through.
Don’t you give up on your dream(s)
Life can really grind us down when we don’t pay attention to our dreams anymore. Successful people know that learning to embrace failure is a prerequisite for becoming successful. They don’t give up on their dreams no matter how often they fail. In fact, failure only motivates them to work harder.
It’s all about the journey
The bottom line is that when we believe in our dreams to come true, our life feels like a wonderful dream. Ironically, it doesn’t matter at all whether we reach a particular dream. All that counts is that we enjoy the process of trying to make it a reality.
I truly hope that this song inspires everyone to believe in and pursue their dreams again!
Lyrics to LIFE’S A DREAM, WHEN YOU KEEP DREAMS ALIVE!
1. Verse (female voice)
life is made of dreams,
those dreams that live within us.
they show us a world without boundaries.
they give us hope,
and make us happy,
you won’t believe
what dreams can do.
2. Verse (male voice)
dreams come from our imagination,
filled with desire,
that we can’t ignore.
follow your dreams,
and you’ll be changing.
for you will find out that your
life’s a dream, when you bring dreams to
life. a dream, when you keep dreams a-
life’s a dream, when you’re living your dreams.
keep dreaming, turn your life into a dream!
stop wasting time,
welcome your dreams now!
keep them with you every night and day.
Dreams do come true,
for you and me, too!
So let us toast to dreams once more.
life’s a dream, when you bring dreams to
life’s a dream, when you keep dreams a-
live;s a dream, when you believe in dreams.

when you bring dreams to life.
wake up your dreams!
embrace them and trust them,
turn your life into a dream!
Superstar Gene by Thomas GuntherHave you ever wondered if there may be something like a Superstar Gene that every superstar has? After all, scientists have found evidence that much of who we are is generically predefined.
So I thought I throw this idea out there in form of a fun song.
The song was entirely produced by myself with Apple’s Logic Pro X software.
Special thanks to Nathan Niederkorn for singing the song!

Lamenta - A Song By Thomas Gunther, Words by Bobbi WilsynI (Thomas Gunther) would like to dedicate this song/video to all the lovers that are separated by an ocean.
Lamenta is a love song I wrote as part of my Chicago Suite. The beautiful lyrics were written by Bobbi Wilsyn. They tell the story of a Mexican guest worker who moved to Chicago to make more money so he and his girlfriend can start a family together back home one day. The song expresses their longing for the day they see each other again.
The songs was first recorded by the SDR (South-German Radio) when I toured Germany with my Chicago Band in 2008 called "Thommy Gunther's Taste of Chicago Band". (The album is available on CD Baby and iTunes.)
The live recording used for this video was done at Piano Forte Foundation Chicago, featuring Bobbi Wilsyn (vocals), Victor Garcia (trumpet, percussion), Daniel Anderson (bass), Tim Davis (drums) and myself (Thomas Gunther - piano). The concert was produced by Herbert Quelle.
I would like it very much if someone translated the lyrics into Spanish and post them here.

One Touch by Thomas GuntherFeel like listening to an other Love Song?
This story goes something like this:
Two lovers try the “let’s stay friends” approach after ending their short love affaire that was as passionate as it was painful. Nevertheless, they have become friends after a few years.
Lately, when they get together, their deep feelings for one another flare up again. Unfortunately they are both afraid of revealing them to each other, when in fact all it would take is ONE TOUCH.
Want to find out how the story ends? Enjoy the video!
I want to thank vocalists Cheryl Wilson and Sam Carniglia who so generously lent me their beautiful voices. Without them this song would surely still be in my drawer of unfinished works.
When You Leave Me NowI wrote this song to tell the story that happened to a friend of mine who's long time girlfriend left him for an other guy rather unexpectedly. Here is how it went down:
After close to 20 happy years together, he heard talk that she wanted to leave him for an other. Of course he was the last person to learn about it. This is one of the worst thing one can experience. He was devastated, sad but also angry. He told me, "When she leaves me now, she will never get me back". So goes the title of the song.
I wrote the song 8 years ago short after they broke up. 6 years ago I finally arranged it for big band and strings, and recorded the instruments all by myself using Logic Pro plug-ins.
During that time it just happened that I had a few gigs in Chicago with the very talented Les Getrex, a Blues singer/guitarist from New Orleans. I hired him to sing the song. Unfortunately I had only an SM 57 stage Mic that day to record his vocals. He learned the song on the fly and recorded it within 30 minutes. In June 2017 I finally mixed the song and published it on YouTube. I plan on making an other video explaining how I composed, arranged, recorded and mixed the song. The entire production cost me only 100 Dollars which I had to pay the singer, who gave me a discount of course.
Blues is all about emotions, most of the time, they are sad. I hope you enjoy it anyway!
