Deborah began her professional singing career in Chicago, Illinois, where she became vocalist for Mr. Lorenzo Smith. She later went on to sing with Central Power System and Mr. Nate Vincent. Together they wrote, recorded and performed on the local Chicago cable network programs. She worked with two affiliated off Broadway shows, Dreamgirls and The Wiz. She later began singing and recording with the Pete Baron Jazztet also of Chicago.
