Daniel Anderson is one of the most respected bass players in Chicagoland. Not only is he liked for his impeccable timing, great sound, and tasteful style but also for the relaxed spontaneity and positive energy he brings to every performance; a combination that makes him one of the most sought-after bassists, especially when playing swing. He is also an excelent tuba player, equally in demand in jazz and classical settings.

PERFORMANCE BIO

Daniel has performed or recorded with many famous musicians and orchestras, both classical and jazz. Among them are:

Ray Charles,
The Jimmy Dorsey Band,
Joe Williams,

The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra,
The Chicago Symphony Orchestra,
Lee Konitz,
Henry Mancini,
Joe Williams
and the list goes on.


Dan has appeared on jazz festivals in Cologne, Berghausen, Pompeii, Moskow, Zagreb, Chatauqua, Ravinia, Aspen and Banff.

Presently he is the bass player with the Chicago Jazz Ensemble (directed by John Faddis), the Von Freeman Quintet, and the Thomas Gunther Trio.

He also plays tuba with the Chicago Brass Quintet and on occasion he is also a guest with the Chicago Symphony.


EDUCATION

Dan has studied double bass with Rufus Reid and Dave
Holland. His tuba teachers include Arnold Jacobs and
Dan Perantoni.

He studied further at the Interlochen Arts Academy, University of Illinois and Northwestern University.

Before finishing college, Dan spent two years living in Germany. There, his freelance work took him from the Octoberfest Bands to the Nuernberg Philharmonic.


TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Dan is currently on the faculty at Columbia College Chicago teaching jazz bass and tuba. In addition he is teaching tuba and euphonium at the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee. He also teaches clinics and workshops for jazz bass and tuba. Dan has also taught at the following schools: DePaul University, Northern Illinois University, Vandercook Music College.
